AI Traffic
Track visits from AI assistants and crawlers
AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and others regularly crawl websites to retrieve content for their answers. SimpleData automatically detects and categorises these AI visits so you can understand how AI systems are interacting with your site.
βοΈ How Detection Works
AI crawlers identify themselves through their HTTP User-Agent string. SimpleData matches these strings against a list of known AI agent signatures and attributes each visit to the corresponding AI system. AI traffic is counted separately from human pageviews so it does not inflate your analytics.
π€ AI Agents Detected
SimpleData currently identifies the following AI systems (by their user agents, the first match wins):
| Agent | Company |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | OpenAI |
| Claude | Anthropic |
| Perplexity | Perplexity AI |
| Mistral | Mistral AI |
| Meta AI | Meta |
| DuckDuckGo | DuckDuckGo |
| You.com | You.com |
| Apple | Apple |
| Amazon | Amazon |
| ByteDance | ByteDance |
| Cohere | Cohere |
| DeepSeek | DeepSeek |
| Grok | xAI |
| Common Crawl | Common Crawl |
| Bing | Microsoft |
π·οΈ Crawlers that do not run JavaScript
This panel counts what reaches the tracker, and most AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBotβ¦) never run it. Your own server sees them: the WordPress plugin 1.1.5, or a few lines for Next.js, Express or a Cloudflare Worker, report them to the "AI crawlers Β· your server" card, with the pages they read. Those are requests, counted apart from these visits.
AI crawlers seen by your server βπ‘ Why AI Traffic Matters
- βUnderstand which AI assistants are indexing your content
- βTrack whether ChatGPT or Perplexity are crawling your pages
- βIdentify if AI training bots are consuming your bandwidth
- βMonitor the growth of AI-driven traffic over time
- βInform your AI SEO strategy β being crawled often correlates with being cited
π Separate From Pageviews
AI agent visits are marked as bot traffic and excluded from your standard pageview, session, and visitor counts. They appear only in the dedicated AI Traffic panel, keeping your human analytics clean and accurate.
π¬ Tips
No AI Traffic? AI crawlers do not visit every site β larger, more authoritative sites are crawled more frequently.
Seeing a lot of Perplexity or ChatGPT visits is a positive signal: it often means AI assistants are using your content to answer user queries.
If you want to block specific AI crawlers, add the appropriate robots.txt rules β SimpleData will still count the visits that do occur.
