404 Error Tracking
Identify and fix broken links
SimpleData automatically detects when visitors land on 404 error pages, helping you identify broken links and improve user experience.
⚠️ How It Works
The tracker analyzes page titles and content to automatically detect 404 error pages. When a visitor hits a broken link, we log the URL they tried to access.
What Gets Tracked
- ✓The broken URL that returned a 404 error
- ✓The page that linked to the broken URL (referrer)
- ✓Timestamp when the error occurred
- ✓Number of times each broken link is accessed
❗ Why This Matters
- →Broken links hurt SEO rankings
- →Poor user experience leads to lost conversions
- →Indicates outdated content or restructuring issues
- →Can reveal problems with external links to your site
- →Helps maintain professional site appearance
🔧 How to Fix 404 Errors
- 1.Check the dashboard for frequently accessed 404 URLs
- 2.If the page was moved, set up a 301 redirect to the new location
- 3.If the content was deleted, create a helpful redirect to related content
- 4.Fix internal links that point to non-existent pages
- 5.Contact external sites with broken links to your content
- 6.Create the missing page if visitors are looking for it
🛡️ Prevention Tips
- ✓Use 301 redirects when moving or renaming pages
- ✓Check for broken links before publishing
- ✓Maintain a sitemap and keep it updated
- ✓Test internal links regularly
- ✓Use proper URL structure from the start
🎨 Create a Good 404 Page
Instead of showing a generic error, create a helpful 404 page that:
- •Explains the page doesn't exist in user-friendly language
- •Provides a search bar to find what they're looking for
- •Links to popular pages or your homepage
- •Includes navigation to help them get back on track
- •Optionally, shows recent or related content
