Countries

Understand where your visitors come from

The Countries section shows which countries your website visitors are coming from, giving you a clear view of your global audience distribution.

βš™οΈ How It Works

SimpleData looks at the visitor's IP address for a moment, when the visit arrives, to find its country and, for the live map, its city. The address itself is then discarded: it is never stored or sent to third parties.

πŸ“ City and the live map

Besides the country, each visit keeps its city, its region and the coordinates of the city centre, rounded to two decimals (about 1 km). That is enough to draw the live map, and it is never the position of a person or a household.

Where it comes from, in this order: Cloudflare's location headers; for traffic that does not pass through Cloudflare (the WordPress plugin, events sent from a server), the MaxMind GeoLite2-City database; and when neither knows the city, the visit is placed at the centre of its country.

Country only

In Site settings β†’ Geolocation you can keep the country only, on every plan. From then on new visits keep the country and nothing finer (no city, region or coordinates), and the live map places them at the centre of their country, saying why. Visits already recorded are not rewritten: they keep their city in the database, although the live map and its feed show them by country too while the option is on. Switch back to City and country and new visits keep their city again.

πŸ‘οΈ What You See

  • βœ“Country name and flag
  • βœ“Number of pageviews from that country
  • βœ“Visual bar showing relative traffic share

πŸ”’ Privacy & Accuracy

  • β€’At most a city: coordinates are a city centre rounded to two decimals, never a precise location
  • β€’Each site can keep the country only (Site settings β†’ Geolocation)
  • β€’IP addresses are never stored; geolocation is resolved in memory at ingestion time
  • β€’VPN users or corporate proxies may appear under a different country
  • β€’Tor exit nodes and anonymizing proxies are typically shown as "Unknown"

πŸ’‘ Use Cases

  • β†’Identify your top geographic markets
  • β†’Plan content localization and translation priorities
  • β†’Inform paid advertising geo-targeting decisions
  • β†’Detect unexpected traffic spikes from specific regions
  • β†’Validate the reach of geo-specific marketing campaigns

πŸ” Filtering by Country

Click any country row in the dashboard to filter all other panels by that country. This lets you see which pages, referrers, and devices are most popular for visitors from that specific location.
